Fluid fusion
Alone, I walked into the Kallang theatre. Devoid of any emotions, my eyes scanned the myriad of chattering girls, searching for a familiar face. Just before my empty heart turned heavy, I saw Isabella. She was just like myself, not here to watch or perform, but just to help out with stuffs.
After more of us came, we made our way to dressing room4 where Mrs Tian told us to meet. The series of numerous dressing, changing and waiting rooms are arranged in a series of complicated mazes. As I walked past each dressing room, shrieks and excited chatter greeted my ears. My eyes feasted on the lively, jumpy girls dressed in all colours of the rainbow in front of large mirrors. The dim bulbs that lined the mirrors cast a yellowish glow over each excited performer. As I peered in the dressing rooms, I cannot help but feel sad, extra and envious, that i cannot be part of the pretty picture. Oh, how would i like to fluster around putting makeup, tying sashes and going up on stage. Will I ever get the chance?
I tore my eyes away from the heartwarming scene i envisioned myself to be in. Trying to be cheerful, i made my way together with the other unperforming ld girls to the foyer just outside the theatre itself. Being in charge of the sceneful-indulgence posters, I eagerly cut long pieces of tape and stuck them on the back of each poster, while Suxin and Charmaine scouted for eye-catching places to paste them. Once they were all prominently displayed, 11 in all, I took a step back and savoured the satisfaction i felt.
Suddenly, my heart gave a lurch. Was my eyes playing a trick no me? Am I seeing things? I guess not...it was all too familiar to me. The same brown rebonded hair, the same walking style and the oh-so-familiar flick of the hair behind the ears. *a part of essay withdrawn*
Curious as to how the theatre look, smell and feel like, we entered in and out liberally, until...
"What are you all doing here?"
I scampered out, leaving my identity hidden in the darkness and shadows of the theatre. Then people came like the first drops of a shower. We had to sell those scriptbooks to them. I'm really glad to say I sold the very first copy!!
Sellin, selling and selling. Talking talking and talking. rejection after rejection after rejection after rejection. I was probably the most irritating, annoying, thickskinned person like a fly who wouldn't buzz off. How I longed to be able to go into the theatre to watch the whole performance...though i would rather much perform. Then I saw it.
Like a nugget of gold hidden in the dust, i spotted a new piece of fluid fusion ticket near the entrance. The was just before the interval. After getting the green light from Mrs Tian, I made my way to the top box. And before i knew it, I was part of the audience! Although I was all alone, I didn't really feel lonely as i was extremely glad i got to watch the performance!
Wondering about the performances of the choir and chinese orchestra, which i had missed, the band started playing. They were quite professional i must say. The 2nd song brought a tinge of nostalgia to my heart, as though i had listened to the same song a long long time ago. The string orchestra was beautiful. The catchy, vibrant songs are still ringing in my ears. I think all the SO members drink yomeishu. The primary dance girls were oh-so-cute!! They were like bright green dots jumping on big piece of white paper. This performance reminded me of Mrs Koh as she is a dance teacher and she's so cute!! the secondary dance swans were so elegant, yet spirited. My heart danced along with the white swans as my eyes indulged in the spectacular item. How i wish i can be one of them, dancing and dancing...like there's no tomorrow...
The sort-of-finale was the family dance. This part almost brought tears to my eyes as i remembered the mornings on the track when i looked forward to dancing the family dance and line dance. My legs, arms and mouth twitched, wanting to sing and dance along. How I love this wonderful school of mine...S3W, my classmates, teachers, the canteen, the sights and smells, the st nix spirit and culture...
