simo camp just ended! haha, lots of VIP at our camp. Xmen (past IMO members, Mr Koh from our sch included. He went for IMO Canada in 95), National Team, Senior Team, teachers, ladies from MOE(who bang on our doors at 7am and chase us to sleep at 11pm), maths ppl from NUS...
Really didn't know training was from 8am to 5pm. Just saw the "sports and games" on the schedule then i just sign up lor. Some very misleading words in there.
"Vertical Training" sounds fun rite? haha, it was lar. But a different kind of fun. National Team and IMO members picking faults at our proofs, which we also had to orally present. got 5/7 for written and 8/8 for oral. Didn't understand the question one actually, just memorized what Bryan and Gar Goei taught me then act like i know like that. Kenneth is very nice though.
"Xmen interaction" is also very fun, but there wasn't any Cyclops like i expected. There are no Xwomen. Haha. Just like there is only one girl in National Team in the camp, and 4 girls in Senior team. Among i think like 60+ ppl. The MOE person say America set lower cut off scores for girls in math and science, but Singapore refuses to do so. Which i think is fairer.
Oh and there's lots of joke passing around. Like the currypuffs one. Coz every training we have currypuffs for tea break. Then camp also give currypuffs. Then SEAMO ppl were also given currypuffs. And the question "For how many of you, this is your first SIMO camp?" was asked so many times. And how Wei Quan got a girlfriend at SEAMO.
Speaking of jokes, the oral quiz was super funny!! Full of lame questions. of course related to maths. Like match the response to each IMO person when they are faced with a combinatorics question. how many sides does an n-gon have? answer is n. How many sides does an n-gon have? (answer not in terms of n) answer is "inside and outside". The some maths problem about 1 and 2 legged ppl wearing shoes. so how many shoes are worn? answer: none, coz all the shoes are perfectly new. LOL. of course there are serious questions too.
Raffles Hall is bad bad. Tons of mosquitoes. small room. I want to stay in the King or Prince residences next time. But actually RH is cozy lar.
Yar then break camp went for science focus. Sleeping throughout. During lunch, we went all the way to NUH to eat. not Food Enclave but another foodcourt deeper in. We were waiting for the lifts. Then this doctor got tired of waiting and he just whipped out a card and tapped it somewhere and the lift immediately came. Zai man!
On the last night we stayed up the whole night to play cards. Super fun lar. Just that there was this guy who called us "noobs" in our face. Excuse me?? Anyway, I played more bridge that day than the rest of my life. I think my skills have improved! I like playing no trump. Then always turns out someone tries to push my bid up, then end us I call him for partner. Highest I went not much though, 4 i think. Someone called 7 and won. Oh there was once i got 4 As, then someone still said I'd lose. But i won. Then another time, me and my partner got all the As and Kings between us. we won!
Sigh... the camp marks the end of my membership in simo. just when i started to like it a little. Hated it before, coz i got in by fluke and totally don't understand any lessons. Aw well, at least it's an experience, albeit a little short.
And since a picture says a thousend words, here are over a hundred thousand words.
