X-men 3- The Last Stand

Went to watch X3 with Chuanyuan, Weixuan, Bernard and Zongyi today. Am so glad nobody listened to Bernard wanting to watch some communist show. And the new Cathay is super nice. The theatre we went to is huge, like 3x the size of normal theatres. And the screen is curved. And the temperature just nice.

X3 is not bad. The movie kept me highly entertained for a couple of hours. Like matrix series, the third xmen movie got lots of breathtaking action and destruction.

Inevitably, the plot is slightly compromised for the awesome special effects. The discovery of a mutant who can rid mutants of their powers, led to humans developing a "cure" for mutants. It is heartwarming to see mutants uniting for the same cause, to rebel against the "cure". And if Magneto was a politician, he would be so charismatic. Ahhh, how easily I am bowled over by people who can make good speeches. "I wish to cure us. But I say, we are the cure!" Hahaha, heard this in the trailer a million times. The rest of the storyline is predictible.

A pity the characters are so 1D. I think the inclusion of so many characters just to placate mutant fans is a bad idea. No choice I guess, they say it's the last movie they are going to make for Xmen alr, so have to include all the characters. Except for Storm, Wolverine and Magneto, the other characters have too little screentime to leave an impact, like Jean, Rouge, Angel and the new mutant Magneto picked up. Only their powers are showcased. Some of the characters are convieniently and blatantly put in to make the plot flow. Like the girl who can sense mutant powers and the guy that can break walls.

The ending part alone is well worth the long wait to watch the movie. The war is so exciting and electrifying and brought out the best of the mutant powers. The showdown between fire and ice was highly anticipated since x2. Haha the good wins. My favourite part of the movie was the part before the war, where Magneto twisted the huge highway bridge. To say it's impressive, would be an understatement. You just must watch it!

I would have liked it better if more than a patronizing effort was put into weaving in romance into the movie. And the humour is also kindof slapstick.

Overall, x3 is not as good as its predecessor, x2, but for the special effects alone, it's worth the time to watch. I will buy dvd and watch again!
